Lava and birthday candles (November 26, 2008)

A must-see of the Volcano park is the sight, after dusk, of lava entering the ocean. We had plan to see that on the evening of Wednesday November 26, that is, on Koupaïa's birsthday. To reach the viewpoint, we thus crossed a lava field (lava flow of 1986-1992) using flashlights and carrying the picnic, and the birthday cake and candles...

At that time, it was only possible to see the active lava flows from far away (sometimes, park visitors can come a few meters away from the lava). We were however able to watch the steam plume lighted by the lava glow (the lava flows do not always reach the ocean).

All these photographs were taken without a tripod...
